Small-scale renewable energy is under attack in Vermont. Three utilities have stopped allowing Vermonters to go renewable and the state’s second largest utility has come out with a proposal that would make it far more expensive for its members to help build our clean energy future. Please take a minute to call your legislators and ask them to expand a law that has already helped thousands of Vermonters go solar.
As the Vermont Public Service Board considers a proposal to significantly expand the state’s long-term reliance on fracked natural gas, a new report out today measures the damage being done by this dirty drilling technology across the country.
Thousands of untested chemicals are used in our homes, schools, food and work places every day. We need a better chemical regulatory system so we can all have confidence that the products in our homes and on our store shelves are healthy and safe.
Take a stand to protect your family from toxic chemicals by signing this petition today!
Vermont has a goal, put forward by Governor Shumlin and backed by the legislature, of getting 90% of our energy from renewable sources by 2050. Allowing expansion of a pipeline carrying fracked gas would lock Vermonters into dirty fossil fuels for decades to come. That’s incompatible with our state’s goals, and incompatible with a healthy, livable climate. Join us at the PSB hearing in Middlebury on Tuesday, September 10th to say no to the fracked gas pipeline.

In a celebratory event in front of the State House, dozens of VPIRG organizers released the results of the largest summer outreach campaign ever. Since the beginning of May, VPIRG canvassers going door-to-door have collected approximately 30,000 signatures in support of GMO labeling legislation, which is pending in the state Senate.
Have you seen what over 25,000 postcards look like? I hadn’t before, and I don’t think our Vermont State Senators will have either – until August 15th! That’s the date when we’ll be delivering the first wave of these messages to a set of legislative champs we hope will carry the GMO labeling bill to victory …
A crew of four VPIRG canvassers journeyed to the farthest reaches of the state to talk to Vermonters about the campaign to label GMOs. The three-day camping trip marked the first time VPIRG has canvassed many towns in Essex County, including all of the United Towns and Gores (UTG). Highlights from the crew included: Out-canvassing …
Lighting the Way: What We Can Learn from America’s Top 12 Solar States, is a new report highlighting a solar energy boom across the country. The report ranks Vermont 9th in the nation for per capita solar installations. This makes Vermont one of a dozen states that have led the nation in solar energy with supportive policies and a commitment to continued expansion.
