There are many ways to evaluate governmental transparency, but at VPIRG we spend a great deal of time following the money. That’s money spent to elect or defeat candidates, lobby our elected leaders, or run the government. Vermont turns out to be a leader in some areas and a laggard in others, but there’s always room to improve.
After a long journey, the Vermont Senate voted 26 to 3 late Friday night in favor of the Toxic-Free Families Act (S.239), and the bill is now headed to the Governor’s desk. Vermont’s bill is viewed by many as the nation’s strongest toxic chemical reform legislation.
