Last week the entire canvass traveled to Windham county to engage with Vermonters in the South-East corner of Vermont. A staff of nearly 100 canvassers, field managers, directors, and administrative staff spent the week working out of Fort Dummer State Park and expanding VPIRG’s reach to 38 towns in the area. Despite the long hours, dinners cooked over a campfire, and the occasional morning rainstorm, this canvass had its most successful week yet. Canvassers ended their days energized by the wealth of grassroots momentum in the Windham county area, and inspired by the conversations had that day. The week laid the groundwork for our organizing team to engage Windham county residents in further action through fight-back forums which will be held throughout the summer. It is the support from our members, canvassers’ hard work, and the uniqueness of this great state that gives this organization such a broad reach and the ability to give a voice to so many Vermonters.
