S. 200 AN ACT RELATING TO THE REPORTING REQUIREMENTS OF HEALTH INSURERS
Sponsored by Sen. Pollina, Doyle & Illuzzi
Status: In Senate Health and Welfare Committee
Bills on health care center on improving transparency, oversight and Vermonters’ ability to access the information they need to know to make informed health care decisions. Consumers should be able to know information not just on successful claims, but also on the amount of claims being denied by insurance providers and how many of those denials are subsequently appealed each year.
Other provisions would require health insurance companies to come clean about how many of our health care dollars are going to pay for executive and corporate board compensation packages, marketing and advertising, and political contributions to candidates and lobbying groups. This kind of transparency will help us bring about more savings in our health care system and ensure that a greater amount of those health care dollars go towards making us healthier.
