Oregon’s Gov. signs updated Bottle Bill into law

Two weeks ago, Oregon’s governor signed an updated Bottle Bill into law. Oregon’s new bottle bill will now include bottled water, energy drinks, and other beverage containers commonly found on store shelves.

Here in Vermont, thanks to the support of Vermonters and community groups around the state, we ensured no repeal of the our state’s Bottle Bill moved in the State House. Building off of this success, we are gearing up to push for Vermont’s own updated Bottle Bill next year.

Updating Vermont’s Bottle Bill recycling program to include water bottles, sports drinks and other non-carbonated beverage containers would have a number of benefits, including:

1) Recycling an additional 96.7 million cans and bottles in Vermont each year,
2) Reducing greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to taking more than 1,200 cars off the road annually,
3) Creating approximately 100 new local jobs, and
4) Generating more than $3 million in annual revenue without raising taxes on anyone.
