Job Opening: Summer Bike Technician (Part-Time)

Job Opening: Part-Time Summer Bike Technician

VPIRG is seeking a reliable, qualified bike technician with a passion for grassroots democracy to help us maintain our bike fleet for summer canvassers.

VPIRG is a strong and growing environmental advocacy organization with 16 full-time, year-round staff and a team of over 50 canvassers. Our summer canvass travels door to door in every town in Vermont to knock on doors, talk to Vermonters, and build support for our campaigns – and our bike fleet is what allows us to reach folks in the rural parts of the state. For sixteen weeks every summer, our bikes get a lot of love traveling down dirt roads and mile-long driveways.

The ideal candidate brings experience in bike maintenance and repair, a willingness to help teach our canvass team about proper bike use and safety, strong organization skills, and a passion for all things bicycle.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide regular maintenance and tuning for VPIRG’s used bike fleet of around 50 bicycles
  • Diagnose, service & repair bikes
  • Maintain a clean, orderly workspace and assist in garage organization
  • Maintain an inventory of tools and parts
  • Assist in canvasser education regarding bike maintenance and safety

Hours & Compensation

The Bike Technician will work an average of 12 hours per week from May 1st to August 18th, with some flexibility in schedule, and will be compensated at an hourly rate of $16.50 per hour.

Qualifications

Must be a self-motivated, team-oriented worker with the ability to work independently. Certifications in bicycle mechanics are encouraged, but not required. Applicants must have at least 1-2 years of experience in a bike shop.
