Study Finds Bigger Better Bottle Bill is Win-Win

Expanding Vermont’s Bottle Bill to certain non-carbonated beverage containers would be a win-win for our state’s environment and economy, according to a new study released today by the Vermont Public Interest Research Group (VPIRG). Among the specific findings in Understanding the Impacts of Expanding Vermont’s Beverage Deposit Return Program: an additional 96.7 million bottles and cans would be recycled each year in Vermont.

Join the Call for Vermont’s Clean Energy future

In the coming weeks, the legislature is considering taking big steps to realize Vermont’s clean energy future:

  • A strong clean electricity standard that would ensure Vermont gets as much as 80% of our electricity from clean, renewable sources by 2025;
  • An expanded Vermont’s Standard Offer to ensure at least half of the new renewable electricity needed is built right here in Vermont;
  • A ban on hydraulic fracturing or “hydrofracking”, a dangerous, irresponsible way of drilling for natural gas that has had devastating consequences in other states around the northeast.
