VPIRG seeks an energetic, confident, creative climate leader who is eager to get out from behind their screen and create a buzz, organize media and visibility events, inspire policymakers to stop dragging their feet, and be a voice for unequivocal and urgent action on climate and equity.
The VPIRG Climate Campaign Manager role is a 16+ month strategic organizing position that – when successful – will lead to more prosperity and less pollution in Vermont, and a model of bold climate action commensurate with the challenge of the climate crisis that can be replicated elsewhere.
Major elements of the position include:
- Drafting and refinement of a campaign plan.
- Message development and branding
- Coalition building and management
- Scheduling and event coordination
- Oral, written, and social media communications with activists, the press, the public, and policymakers
Qualifications: Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, a mission-driven approach, and a proven commitment to climate action and VPIRG’s values. Experience in grassroots organizing, fundraising, and media relations a plus. Creativity and flexibility are essential. Climate and clean energy expertise can be developed. Ability to travel (within state) and work evening/weekend hours as needed. Eagerness to put diversity, equity, and inclusion at the center of climate policy.

Duration: September 2021 – December 2022, with potential to extend.
Compensation: Minimum starting salary of $50,000. Excellent benefits package including employer-paid health insurance and employer-matching IRA contributions or student loan repayment of up to 3% of salary. Four weeks of vacation and 15 personal days annually accrued and 11 paid holidays.
