Position: VPIRG Summer Canvasser
Location: Burlington, VT
Ever wish you could get paid to travel Vermont, bike around some of the most scenic parts of the state, camp with friends, and actually make an impact on the future of important environmental issues? If you answered yes, we have the job for you!
VPIRG is looking for passionate individuals to work May through August as a part of our summer outreach campaign. Employees will work Monday through Thursday traveling throughout Vermont, fundraising and engaging Vermonters in our Campaign to Stop Single-Use Plastics. Employees can earn as much as $4,000 to $8,000 dollars, meet incredible friends, and be a part of an unforgettable movement along the way.
You’ll get to work with leaders including 2019 Canvass Director Sam Hurt. Right now, she’s in the State House working to pass some of the boldest plastics legislation in the country. This summer, she’s taking the effort to communities across Vermont to build public support and engagement for even more action. Join Sam and our grassroots canvass team this summer!
Your mission is straightforward: build the organization, raise funds by signing up members and educate the public. Canvassers mobilize grassroots support for real solutions so we have the strength to defeat the special interests behind the status quo. The most valuable asset to VPIRG is our members, and every summer canvassers are responsible for talking face-to-face with these members as well as signing up new people who want to join the movement.
In addition to having an impact, canvassing for VPIRG increases your knowledge of environmental issues and Vermont, while giving you hands-on experience in practical communication, fundraising, organizing and advocacy skills. The Vermont Public Interest Research Group (VPIRG) is the largest nonprofit consumer and environmental advocacy organization in Vermont. Founded in 1972, VPIRG’s mission is to promote the health and well-being of Vermont’s people, environment and locally based economy by informing and mobilizing citizens across the state.
