Staying Strong on VY: Rally held at State House

Holding signs and banners, citizens gathered to express their support for retiring Vermont Yankee

On Monday, Vermonters gathered outside the State House in Montpelier to thank Governor Shumlin and other state leaders for moving Vermont toward a clean energy future and for their support for retiring Vermont Yankee on schedule.

This comes in the face of Judge Garvan Murtha’s decision late last week in Entergy’s lawsuit against the state to invalidate key portions of Vermont law. These Vermonters’ message to state leaders? Stay strong.

In a blow to clean energy and the public interest, U.S. District Court Judge Garvan Murtha sided with Entergy Louisiana in striking down key sections of Vermont law regarding Vermont Yankee.
 
He didn’t give Entergy everything it wanted though, and the state retains some important oversight of the nuclear plant. It looks like questions about continued operation of the plant will now go back to the Public Service Board.

U.S. District Court Judge Garvan Murtha just released his ruling in Entergy Louisiana’s lawsuit against the state of Vermont regarding Vermont Yankee.  In a blow to clean energy and the public interest, Murtha sided with Entergy in striking down key sections of Vermont law.  He didn’t give Entergy everything it wanted though, and the state retains some important oversight of the nuclear plant.  It looks like questions about continued operation of the plant will now go back to the Public Service Board.
