The Office of Vermont Health Access recently released the latest enrollment numbers for Green Mountain Care, which is the umbrella name for all state health care products, including Catamount Health. As noted in
our latest report on Catamount Health’s progress, the state is currently not on track to reach to reach its goal of ensuring that 96% of the population has health care coverage by 2010. The latest numbers show little change.
At the end of August 2008, 5,003 Vermonters were enrolled in the Catamount Health Assistance Program, also known as CHAP. (CHAP is the subsidized Catamount Health product, available to those who live below 300 percent of the federal poverty level.) The full-cost Catamount Health plan had only 701 enrollees. An additional 1,049 are enrolled in one of the assistance programs for employer-sponsored insurance.
Overall, 10,381 Vermonters who did not have health insurance prior to the launch of the Green Mountain Care outreach campaign are now enrolled in one of the available public programs (including Catamount Health, VHAP, Dr. Dynasaur, SCHIP, and others). While this may seem like a promising number, we estimate that an additional 30,000 Vermonters will need to obtain health care coverage within the next 18 months in order for the state to reach its 96% goal.
